Despina is a Registered Dietitian and Certified Diabetes
Educator. In addition to working with Shannan Carter Nutrition, she is at NYU Langone Weight Management Program.
She serves as the Public Relations Chair of Greater New York Dietetic Association (GNYDA). Despina fulfilled her dietetic
internship at New York-Presbyterian Hospital in affiliation with Columbia University and Weill-Cornell Medical College. She
holds a Master of Science degree in Clinical Nutrition from New York University and Bachelor’s degree
in Dietetics from the University of Maryland.
Prior to joining the Weight Management Program, Despina was a clinical
dietitian at NYU Medical Center, working in critical care with liver and kidney transplant patients. Her
counseling specialties include weight management, bariatrics/surgical weight loss, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, renal
and liver disease.
In addition to individual counseling, she enjoys teaching classes, public speaking and writing.
Despina is an active member of the American Dietetic Association, Weight Management Dietetic Practice Group, New York State
Dietetic Association, and Obesity Action Coalition.
